Fakta These are all strong performances that has not lost its appeal since they were recorded in the sixties. Stravinsky, the conductor, makes the strongest case possible for a composer, who in this case happens to be himself. The "Symphony in Three Movements" was called by Stravinsky his "War Symphony" and was recorded with the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in Hollywood in 1961. The other two symphonies were done in Toronto with the CBC Symphony Orchestra and the Festival Singers of Toronto under the direction of Elmer Iseler between Dec. 1962 and March, 1963. Here you find Stravinsky at his very best on the podium, defying the rigors of old age.
